#GlobalSelfie with NASA on Earth Day

Yesterday I saw a Facebook posting by NASA and the hashtag GlobalSelfie caught my attention.

I’m not a selfie person but the hashtag sounded interesting so I followed the link to the NASA web site.

On April 22 is Earth Day.

Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.

And NASA plans to celebrate this year’s Earth Day with the event #GlobalSelfie. Everyone around the world can attend this event.

It’s simple – download one of the printable signs NASA created, already available in several languages with more to follow, and take a selfie with the sign on April 22.

NASA will be looking for photos posted to five social media sites: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google+ and Flickr.

Photos can be posted to Twitter, Instagram or Google+ using the hashtag #GlobalSelfie, or post photos to the #GlobalSelfie event page on Facebook or the #GlobalSelfie group on Flickr.

On this Earth Day, we wanted to create a different picture of our planet — a crowd-sourced collection of snapshots of the people of Earth that we could use to create one unique mosaic of the Blue Marble.
